The Department of Health and Society conducts research and postgraduate teaching on the social determinants of health, exploring how social, cultural and structural factors shape health, wellbeing and health equity across populations.
The Department of Health and Society is a newly established academic department within the Melbourne School of Public Health. As the University’s home for health-related social and behavioural sciences, social epidemiology and lived experience scholarship, we investigate the social determinants of health and the social, cultural and structural factors that shape health and wellbeing. Our interdisciplinary research generates evidence to inform policy, practice and community-led solutions that advance health equity and improve health outcomes across diverse populations and settings.
